About Claudia Hafner
OFFICIAL WEBSITE: http://www.claudiahafnerwatercolor.com
Claudia Hafner approaches subjects as portraiture, whether people, wildlife, flowers or architecture.
She recreates the character of the subject through color and a careful, but loose style which combines a propensity for detail with the desire for freedom and motion.
Early childhood attempts at art started with portraits of The Beatles using a #2 pencil. Having pursued a music degree in college, art manifested in the form of weaving after a basic course at Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. Early work was in tapestries and then loosely woven, drape-able bolts of fabrics for clothing. Love of color and textures was evident in these fabrics.
Later, seed beading for jewelry again incorporated love of color and patterns and a certain tactile quality.
Returning to college to study Multimedia and Graphic Design at Art Institute of Atlanta, the ensuing years were devoted to building websites and putting the pieces of that puzzle together. A layoff after September 11 opened up the opportunity to put some time into studying with an artist friend from those days as a weaver.
Over the years a loose style of painting in watercolor developed that brings the textures and color into play. Capturing the essence of a subject with as little fussing as possible is the perpetual goal of my work.
